Cai Turner has been named Seward High’s Student of the Month for August, a recognition he accepts with humility, admitting, “I’m grateful, but I feel other people in the school have accomplished greater things.” Cai has a straightforward ambition to graduate high school a year early. His favorite subject, art, is chosen because “It doesn’t cause me too much stress, and is a creative outlet.” Yet, beneath this leisure lies a dedicated approach to balancing academics and extracurriculars.
Turner manages his time effectively by utilizing the study hall provided by Coach Tyler after school to get work done. His academic goal is simple: to graduate from high school. He credits Mr. Hinders as the most influential teacher in his academic journey, appreciating his laid-back approach. Beyond academics, Cai’s involvement at Seward High School most importantly includes football and his role as class president. He enjoys participating in these things because “why wouldn’t I, it’s a great opportunity we have at Seward High.”
Cai’s motivation comes from the desire to complete his work, yet he sometimes finds himself falling behind. He motivates himself by believing that if he gets it done now, it won’t be another thing to stress about later. His advice to peers is equally as direct: “Get good grades so that you can get out of high school earlier.”
Cai’s most significant contribution to the community lies in his commitment to the fire department. He participates in community service events with the Seward Fire Department team and is on the emergency medical call response team. He wants to continue in this profession, to receive a full-ride scholarship to any college focusing on a degree to be a fire technician.
