Sourdough Bagels

Going stir crazy, need something different to do? With this new amount of time and less motivation to do school work, I have started baking at least once a week. Here are some of the recipes that I have tried.

The first recipe is for sourdough bagels. I started this recipe on Wednesday night around 4 pm– not my smartest idea since they needed to rise for four to five hours. When I looked through the comments, people said that they could be put in the fridge and then taken out to rise the next day. I would not recommend this because I don’t think the dough ever did rise.

After I let the dough sit out for 6 hours (I think), I put them into little balls and formed them into the bagel shape. Then they had to rise for another hour or two.

These bagels take a long time to make. After they are done rising, they need to be boiled and then baked for about 25 minutes. If you don’t have a day to dedicate to these bagels, I don’t recommend making them over two days.

When they were finally done, they turned out a bit dense. I think the amount of wheat flour to liquid ingredients was too much. Also, the fact that my dough never did rise as it should have, was probably another reason, but if you have the time it is a fun project to try.
