Bullwinkle

Bullwinkle

About three weeks ago, my uncle gave me a call and asked me if I wanted to go with him on a moose hunt to western Alaska. It has been my dream to go on a big hunt like this, and I was beyond excited to fly into a place I have never seen before. So, of course, I said yes, and we booked our tickets.

I didn’t realize how much packing and preparation it was going to be to get all of our gear ready. One of the most important things we had to get done was make sure our rifles were still shooting straight from last year. Thankfully, we did because both rifles needed adjusting. Between bad weather and my uncle’s busy work schedule, it was a multi-day ordeal to get this done.

Our next biggest battle was making sure we had absolutely everything we needed or wanted to take with us. This included us making notes and lists, then meticulously going through them and checking things off. Making sure you have all your gear is crucial, such as chest waders, raincoat, and lots of good warm layers.

Since my uncle is a Club 49 member with Alaska Airlines, the last thing we needed to do was sort everything out into multiple bags that weighed under 50lbs. In doing this, the airline won’t charge us extra for the weight of our checked bags.

We take off on the 4th of September and return home on the 16th. Hopefully,  I will have some pictures of a bull we harvest to go along with a great story of the trip when I return home.
