Homecoming 2016: Fun Festivities

football-titleSaturday’s Homecoming festivities began with our football game against the Nikiski Bulldogs. The Seahawks showed a strong start, and held the lead after two quarters of play.

The halftime show was one to watch. All of the floats had yellow and green splattered on every surface, and music blasted so loudly, you could almost see the vibrations. School spirit spread as the football players ran to join their classes upon the floats. It was an interesting sight for someone who had never been to a Homecoming game before.

Half-time came tfreshmen-float2-640x463o a close, and the third quarter started. Slowly but surely, we progressed our way to the top. By the end of the third quarter, we were up 16-8. Excitement stirred the Seward fans, while a mix of anxiety and tenseness emanated from the fb_img_1475791739284Nikiski crowd. Near the end of the third quarter, Rhett Sieverts scored a touchdown that electrified the spirits of every Sewardite.  The fourth quarter came to a close with the hooting and hollering of the people in the stands. The scoreboard read 22 Seward, 8 Nikiski. Seward had won the conference title! The excitement and smiles warmed all Seahawk fans on that cold afternoon.

About four hours later, the Homecoming dance commenced. With the theme of “Candyland,” students, myself included, were a bit skeptical on how it would turn out, dance and decoration wise. To everyone’s enjoyment, student council and their volunteers did an awesome job of creating an atmosphere like a sugar-wonderland. Everyone arrived in different styles and dress. Most boys dressed in nice attire (shirt, dress pants, tie) and most girls attended in dresses of all kinds: form-fitting, flowy, and two-piece. The music (providedfb_img_1475791752912 by the DJ Grace) kept everyone moving. It brought out not only those who are the normal school dance enthusiasts, but also those who prefer not to attend. By the end of the night, everyone was satisfied… and tired.

A big thanks to all the students and parents who volunteered to make SHS Homecoming 2016 a day and night of fun festivities.
