As Christmas break approaches, Seahawk students are excited to finish school and ready to participate in their favorite holiday activities and traditions. From staying up late to playing basketball, everyone has something unique that makes the holiday season special!
Olivia Jones, a hardworking student, mentions, “Staying up late doing homework for AP World History will fill my agenda.” On the other hand, Lia Shank is out in the world enjoying a mix of sports and family time. She says, “Playing basketball, traveling to games during break, and going on an annual trip to see my family in Massachusetts are my favorite things to do during the holiday season.”
When it comes to winter activities, skiing and ice fishing are at the top of the list. As Alaskan kids, a lot of our time is spent outside. Even if it is a whopping eleven degrees some days! Lia Shank, nevertheless, loves cross-country skiing on lakes and trails around town. She says, “Being active during the holiday season is my favorite way to spend my break.” Emerson Cross prefers the calmness of ice fishing on Bear Lake.
Holiday traditions also play a big role in making the season memorable. Sevin Phillips shares a fun activity she partakes in on Christmas Eve. She says, “I can pick one present to open.” Mikinley Williams’s family tells a tale of how the Sandman comes and brings pajamas every night on Christmas Eve for her family to wear while they open presents the next morning. Of course, the joy of receiving gifts is a highlight for many. Olive Johnson states, “I like the presents.”
As we all prepare for the holiday break, it’s clear that the students of Seward High School have a variety of ways to celebrate and enjoy this special time of year. Whether through family traditions, winter sports, or simply enjoying the festive spirit, everyone has something to look forward to. Happy Holidays, Seward High!
