This week, I will be introducing a series of battles between TV shows and characters from Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, PBS Kids, and Boomerang. I like to call it “This Vs. That”. The way they battle to see who wins, I ask students or staff whom they like more and why; it’s basically a popularity contest.
The first battle will be between Spongebob Squarepants and Bluey. Sponegbob Squarepants is a cartoon that first premiered in July of 1999. It is one of the most popular animated series. On average, the show attracts about 30 million viewers annually across various platforms.
Bluey is a more recent show. It first premiered in October of 2018. It is estimated that Bluey reaches around 10 million viewers annually within the U.S. I went around and asked various people who they liked more and why? Let’s see what the people have to say: Spongebob or Bluey?
“Spongebob. Spongebob is a classic. It’s an OG.” – Evelyn Zinis (Junior)
“Spongebob. Spongebob is way more entertaining than Bluey.” – Eli Fisher (Junior)
“Spongebob. Spongebob has universal appeal with both adults and kids. Spongebob has some jokes that only adults understand. I believe there is only one blue dog on top and that’s Blues Clues.” – Mr. Hinders (History teacher)
“Spongebob. Bluey is too recent. Spongebob is the OG.” – Jaelyn Crites (Sophomore)
“Spongebob. I’m just more familiar with it. I don’t know a whole lot about Bluey.” – Leeann Soule (Senior)
“Spongebob. Sponegbob is a much happier person. He’s a funny character. The show is very dramatic but in a good way. The show keeps everything interesting.” – Katlyn Myers (Sophomore)
“Spongebob because I don’t know what Bluey is. Plus, Spongebob is just better.” – Philip Trobaugh (Sophomore)
As you can see, 100% of the students and staff who were asked have agreed upon Spongebob and helped the show to be victorious within Seward High School.
