Welcome to this week’s ‘This Vs. That’! Our new input is based on a special edition senior lip-sync battle debate. On Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025, Seward High will be hosting the show where groups go head-to-head to see who’s skills will win over the audience.
The five groups going against one another will be The Jackson 5, Weird Al, Miley Cyrus, Vanilla Ice, and Alvin and the Chipmunks. To avoid biased opinions we kept the members of each group a secret and asked multiple people which one they think will win and why.
Let’s see what the people of Seward High School have to say:
William LaRow (Junior) – “Probably Vanilla Ice: I don’t know, I like the song.’ Ice Ice Baby’ (Sings the beat to the song)”
Nevaeh Harris (Senior) – “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Because they’re cool.”
Daniel Kornfeld (Junior) – “Alvin and the Chipmunks: I don’t really know the other ones.”
Jennifer Fernandez (Junior) – “Weird Al: He makes parodies, and when you make people laugh, you automatically have their heart.”
Cai Turner (Sophomore) – “Vanilla Ice: The song is so fire, and you can dance to it. You can’t really dance to the other songs.”
Jimmy Fernandez – “The Jackson 5: They were a good group back then. I wasn’t alive back then, but their songs are really good.”
Hunter Thatcher (Janitor) – “The Jackson 5: I think they’re gonna be funny on stage.”
Ms. Hansen (Secretary) – “Vanilla Ice: It reminds me of being a kid with my siblings. I love that song.”
Ms. Price (Head Secretary) – “Vanilla Ice and The Jackson 5: I grew up on them both. It’s a tie between the two.”
Lilly Mooter (Junior) – “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Because they’re funny.”
Ms. Bagheri (Science teacher) – “Vanilla Ice: Because it’s more of a vibe. One of my students really gives off the Vanilla Ice vibe, and I think they’re a part of it. So I think they’ll win.”
As you can see, the people of Seward High School have spoken. Miley Cyrus came out with 0% of votes. Weird Al came out to about 8.33% of votes. The Jackson 5 and Alvin and the Chipmunks tied with 25% of the votes. That leaves us with our winner: Vanilla Ice, with a voting of 41.67%.
