Winter Break: Ideas for Fun Times with Friends and Family

Lindy Guernsey, Staff Editor

Don’t let winter break be mundane. Have fun doing things such as playing in snow, hanging out with friends, reading for enjoyment, spending time with family, learning something new, or catching up on your favorite shows.

If we get snow, be sure to venture outside to enjoy it.  Building snow forts and snowmen is wonderful fun. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are great outdoor activities. Find a hill and race some friends sledding.

Spend time with friends and family. Have a sleepover to catch up with friends. Watching movies is a great activity. If you can’t get out to the movies, then you can still delight in DVD’s at home. Also, you could catch up on your favorite TV shows.

Find a book you like and read it for fun. It will not only enhance your reading ability, but if you choose a book you love, you can get hours of enjoyment. Be sure to check out a book from the school or community library before break. If you have an electronic reading device, take advantage of the overdrive digital library (overdrive.com).

Let your creativity flow and do puzzles, draw, paint, write, knit, crochet, bake, or  learn an instrument. With the internet, you can learn almost anything, so if you want learn how to bake, for example, the internet has lots of resources and recipes. If you don’t have anyone to teach you, use the internet; there is a “how to” video for almost anything on youtube.

Spend time doing, not wondering what to do this winter break. Spend time with people you love doing things you like and have fun.
