A Night at the Oscars

Meghan Mullaly, Staff Writer

Late in the evening, Saturday, April 14th, Seward High School held its prom at the Seward City Church. The theme this year was Night at the Oscars. Students enjoyed dressing to the theme in long, elegant dresses and fitted suits.

The junior class worked hard Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, moving furniture and decorating the venue with Oscar and Hollywood themed items. The main entrance onto the dance floor consisted of a stanchion and balloon-lined red carpet. String and flashing-color lights illuminated the dance floor. The famous “Hollywood”  letters stretched across one wall, while balloons adorned remaining spots.

Enough food to feed everyone twice was generously provided thanks to Chinooks, Zudy’s Cafe, Apollos and parent donations.

Students enjoyed dancing to music by DJ Derek Lewis from Soldotna, plus a special performance by Anevay Ambrosiani and Selma Casagranda. They entertained the crowd with “I Was Made For Loving You” by Tori Kelly.

Ten o’clock… time for awards! During the two weeks before prom, students nominated and voted for their peers during their lunch period. The freshman prince was Levi DeBoard, accompanied by princess Selma Casagranda. For sophomores, the prince was Jack Gunter, joined by princess Madilyn Moore. The junior class chose Brendan McMurray as prince, and Allie Toloff as the princess. The king and queen were voted from the senior class: Brandon Lynch and Ruby Lindquist.

Thanks to the junior class for rolling out the red carpet for all Seward High stars to enjoy a fun, glamorous evening.
