Volleyball: Bump, Set, Conquer
With cross country state runner-ups and football conference championships, Seward High School has had a fantastic fall sports season, volleyball being no exception. Currently, our Seahawk varsity volleyball team is ranked number three in the Region III conference with a record of six wins and three losses. The Seahawks have been showing a strong team dynamic throughout the first half of the season, losing only to top competitors Grace Grizzlies and Nikiski Bulldogs (ranked numbers one and two, respectively.) With fantastic home crowds and a large number of wins, it’s hard not to be excited about the Seahawk volleyball team’s performance this year.
Earlier in the season, the Seahawks took home the first place trophy at the North/South tournament hosted by Houston High School. Seniors Tia Miranda and Kimmy Hubbard and Junior Maille Moriarty made the all-tourney team, as well, further showing off the hard work that goes into practicing each day.
The Junior Varsity has had a great season as well, also,, showing drastic improvement from the beginning of the season. After a few tough losses, the JV team displayed their determination as well this past weekend by beating ACS along with varsity on Thursday, followed by another JV victory over Grace on Saturday. The whole team couldn’t be happier about their season, and no matter the turnout of games, are always looking forward to the next one.
You won’t want to miss the second half of the Seahawk Volleyball season, as it is packed full of home games. After playing in the annual Grace Grizzlies Volleyball tournament this weekend, (October 7th and 8th) they play Redington at home on October 13th, Houston on October 15th, and Nikiski on October 25th. You won’t want to miss those!
Now that the rest of the region knows Seward is a force to be reckoned with, the games are sure to be exciting. Be sure to remember to come out and support your Seward Seahawks!

I think the JV team did really well this early, and made an amazing improvement from the beginning of the year to the end. The team chemistry is still developing, but I think we’ll be an awesome team next year.
