Citrus County Raceway

Citrus+County+Raceway

Before going to the Daytona 500, a small race track was 10 minutes from my grandparent’s house. Citrus County Raceway is a nice little race track that races many cars. We were watching the legend cars. These small cars are sweet! They have 1200cc Yamaha crotch rocket motors in them. The cars are super loud and fast for how big they are.

The small race track has super steep corners, and the small legend cars constantly crash on the corners. When the legend cars would race, they liked to play dirty. They hit each other, run each other off the track almost like a demolition derby.

After each crash, they had a tow truck with a grapple hook. It would pick up the whole car, and would carry them off the track. If the vehicles stalled, the legend cars would have to be bump-started. They had a four-wheeler to bump and start all the cars if needed. My favorite part was when there was a big crash, the four-wheeler would rip out to the scene before anyone stopped. It was just so funny because he was not caring. If that happened in NASCAR, the four-wheeler would have been killed.

After watching these little cars speed around the track and then watching the Daytona 500, I realized there are a lot more rules and safety hazards in Nascar to make sure everyone is safe. Meanwhile, on the Citrus County Race track, they use demolition derby to get first.
