On March 19th, Seward Seahawk Cheerleading placed fourth at the 2024 ASAA DII Cheer State Championship.

The team, comprised of Lola Swanson, Juniper Ingalls, Somi Clendaniel, Addison Gerlach, Olive Sayler, and Josie Andrews, as well as coaches Jean Beck and Brittany Swanson, took the Region III Championship in early March, and went into State with high hopes. Their routine ‘Barbie Dance,’ performed to Charli XCX’s ‘Speed Drive’ solidified their place over Grace Christian in the Division II standings.

The Lady Hawks also won the academic award, earned by having the highest average cumulative GPA in the competition, that being an impressive 3.95.

The future outlook for Seward Cheer is bright. “I think we’ll do better, ‘cause we won regions with a team of only freshmen and sophomores, so, [we’re] only going up from there,” said Captain Lola Swanson, who also made the all-tournament state team.

Additionally, the team runs an annual cheer camp for elementary school students, which not only raises money for travel expenses, but also encourages future prospects to join the Seward Cheer Squad.
